Youth Voices Matter: Launch of U-Report Live

Making youth voices matter. VSO Philippines together with its local development partners: CBCS, LAFCCOD, MARADECA, PAKIGDAIT, UNYPHIL-Women, MINCODE, the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, CFSI, UNICEF, and youth networks launched the newest program of U-Report, the U-Report Live last August 20 through Facebook Live.

U-Report Live is a virtual platform designed for adolescents and youth across the Bangsamoro Region and the rest of the country to collaborate, innovate, and engage in creative and exciting activities to make youth voices matter and foster peace and resilience-building through digital and online platforms. The platform will showcase segments (U-Report Diaries, DIYs, Challenges and Mini-Contests) designed to cater different and unique interests of young people which can be done solo, duo, or with the youth organization.

Introduced in the Bangsamoro Region, U-Report is a social messaging tool that enables adolescents and youth to provide critical information to decision makers on issues affecting their communities through polls. It is also a valuable platform for sharing information through message alerts.

I am hopeful and optimistic that with this new online platform, we will enable youth engagement to continue even during this pandemic. That, now more than ever, youth voice matters." —Sam, U-Reporter

The launch of U-Report Live comes as VSO and partners celebrate the International Youth Month—an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement.

U-Report Live is managed by the U-Report Steering Committee, a collaboration among VSO, local development partners, and youth networks from BARMM, which provides oversight function and management of the platform ensuring that online activities and U-Report polls shared to U-Reporters are relevant, appropriate and useful.

VSO Philippines’ youth intervention focuses on mobilizing young change makers for greater social cohesion and durable peace in the Bangsamoro. With the current COVID-19 situation that has halted normal youth movement and ways we engage, we offer new platforms to enable youth to continue being a voice to their community, hold duty bearers accountable, monitor development progress, and ensure that policy makers consider the needs of adolescents and young people amidst this pandemic.
